New update for CADS Electric


CADS Electric revision 18.0.3 brings extensive improvement of the software use. With revision 18.0.3 the structure of the project database will be changed. This means that the projects converted to 18.0.3 format cannot be continued any more with an older version.

Document tree

The possibility to make visible another project tree, as well as a new tree type, a document tree has been added to the product.
As before, the CADS project must be in one folder. The document tree, however, enables arranging the images hierarchically in their own folders, so the images of different types can be easily located in the CADS user interface.
In the context menu of the document tree, there are functions related to the document management, such as naming the images, filling the header table and printing. Also directories can be added as project documents in the future, whereupon their updating becomes considerably easier.

Branch connection method

New setting has been added to the connection method for joining the trays. Setting can be chosen when drawing the tray.
Branch = Wire routing joints are done with separate parts. The size of the parts can be chosen from the settings as before.

Connection piece = Wire routing joints are done with connection pieces without disrupting the main line or adding to the project a separate T- or X-part that should be ordered. The connection pieces are not drawn in the image, but the part has to be taken into consideration in the quantity surveying just like others.

Editing vertical riser cables

The vertical riser cables connected to another network can be edited in the future also in the wire routing editing window. To the vertical trays drawing, support for the layer settings has been added, so that drawing just a vertical riser cable from the undermost layer to the top layer is easy with the vertical riser cable drawing tool.

Wire routing geometry calculation changes

The calculation of geometry of the wire routing has been updated. The aim was to reduce considerably the creation of difficult geometries. As to the wire routing, the difficult corner details can now not be drawn so that the solution is more corresponding to the reality. Technically the calculation will be made according to the centre line, but the drawn line still has effect when the wire routing is expanded. To the user the change should be seen as smoother use of the program.

Additional information

There are changes in the operational logic in additional information that should be taken notice of when additional information has been used in the projects. The old existing projects will function as before, but the new ones have more versatile possibilities. Old projects will not change automatically in any way, but they can be put into operation as the new ones but the user has to make changes in the additional information definitions.

There is a new setting 'Copying is not permitted to the object' in the additional info definition. This setting is active by default when creating new additional information definitions. It is also active with the definitions coming with CADS. In user-defined additional information that is created with version 18.0.2 or older, this setting is not active. The setting is copied to the additional info and on the basis of value it is decided whether additional information is copied onward to the next objects.

So if you wish that the user added info from the product template is not copied on the devices in the future, this setting should be activated for additional information, created with the versions before 18.0.3.

The setting will be deactivated by software when the user adds additional information to the device. In that case the default value of the additional information definition does not matter because the program will function as before. This setting has any effect only when additional information is added to a product template, product information or via a constraint to the object.

Additional information was previously copied to the device whether from a product template or product information. Now the additional information added to the product template stays just on the product template, even though it is shown on the device. This clarifies the operational logic as the product template level information is only on the product template and the device-specific information just on the device. 'Copying is not permitted to the object' setting allows now the functioning by adjusting the additional information. At the same time it also reduces a project size, especially in a situation where additional information is much used on product templates. Along with ETIM additional information, the use of these will only grow in the future

Additional information in general

Additional information is an extremely versatile way of inserting information in the project. Additional information can only be added to the objects of the project and can thus be used only in the Pro version when the images are attached as part of the project.

Additional info allows for accumulating the data freely on the devices. In the new 18.0.3 revision there is more additional information available than before through ETIM interface. The information recording method with ETIM additional information is standardized. Although there is a lot of ETIM additional info, the user can also create absolutely freely named additional information for the project without restraint. All additional information is also saved in the IFC data file, so it is a versatile method for retrieving device properties for the product template, for example.

Additional info can now be added directly to different types of objects. In addition to the image objects, additional information can be added through constraints.
